My name is Sage Howard. I am from Portland Oregon, and live in Japan with my wife where I teach high school English.
I am closing in on a degree in creative writing, seeking to hone my craft into something more palatable for public consumption, and to make a clean break from a lifetime of endless toil in IT. I am a dabbler and multipotentiate. I obsess to a fanatical degree on a subject, for a short time, and when this grand and whimsical romance with dopamine diminishes, I move on to the next thing. No single subject seems to hold dominion over my thoughts, and while I follow that lure, nothing can break my focus, even to the detriment of some aspects of my life, so the tempo and discipline of study has been a challenge at times.
The core theme in my life though has been writing and reading. Stories are the firmament that my mind resides on and within. I remember loves and labors of my favorite tales more than birthdays or anniversaries (thank the gods for reminder apps), and reading books and writing are what motivate me to do frankly anything.
My focus is speculative fiction because my eyes are to the future, and the shadows we cast in time. I want to talk about and contemplate progress, and the stories I want to tell are about change, the collective dreams of our civilization, and our place in the universe.
